Director of the Tribe: Nicholas Tyler

Mr. Tyler has been the Band Director at Cherokee High School since June of 2017. Graduated in April of 2017 with his Bachelor degree in Arts and Science in Music with a concentration in Education.  While at UAB, Mr. Tyler was involved in a multitude of ensembles that took him around the world from five different states, including Hawaii as well as international as Ireland. Nick is a member of the Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity, since 2013. Mr. Tyler continues his playing by performing in the Shoals Symphony as Assistant Principal Trumpet. He is currently pursuing his masters in Music Education at the University of Florida. While at Cherokee, the band continues to show excellence in both Marching Band, Concert Band, Color Guard, and Danceline. Mr. Tyler is from Warrior, Alabama where he attended Mortimer Jordan High School.

Percussion Instructor: Gabriel Goodloe

Gabriel has been a part of our staff since the fall of 2017. He is currently studying Music Education at The University of North Alabama and is the percussionist at First Baptist Church in Tuscumbia. His performance experiences include all-district and all area honor bands, Muscle Shoals High School Marching band, concert band, and percussion ensemble that won bronze at the WGI Scholastic Percussion Concert World Class in 2013, the Pride of Dixie Marching Band at UNA, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Shoals Symphony at UNA.

Visual Coordinator and Woodwind Instructor: Kyla Slaton

Kyla is currently pursuing a Bachelors in Education with a concentration in Family and Consumer Science at The University of North Alabama. She is an officer for the UNA Kappa Delta Pi Educational Honor Society chapter and a Captain for the College of Education and Human Sciences Ambassadors. This upcoming fall will be her fourth and final season with the piccolo section of the UNA marching band. She is a member of her church praise team at First Baptist Church Cherokee. She was a seven-year member of the Muscle Shoals High School Band where she helped lead them as a section leader and band officer.

Color Guard Instructor: Brodi Welborn

Brodi Welborn is a graduate of Cherokee High School and plans on attending a cosmetology school to pursue a career in cosmetology. He was captain of the color guard and will be coming back next marching season as the color guard instructor. Brodi is from Cherokee AL.

Brass Instructor: Brandon Thomas

Brandon is a fifth-year member of the baritone section with The University of North Alabama marching band and is the manager at Chik Fil A in the Florence Mall. He is a 2015 graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School where he marched with Mr. Tyler. He has traveled with the UNA Band to Bands of America Grand Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Unity Band Fest in Charleston, South Carolina, and performed in stadiums all across the South.

The principal of CHS: Pam Worsham 

This is my fifth year as principal at Cherokee High School. Prior to my position at Cherokee High School, I served as principal at Cherokee Elementary School for five years and taught there for nine years.  I have also taught at Leighton Middle School, Hatton Elementary School, and Tishomingo Elementary School. I have three beautiful children:  Sarah Beth graduated from CHS and Auburn, works for Student Life and currently lives in Birmingham with her husband Billy.  Blake works for Norfolk Southern and also owns a lawn care service (Blake’s Lawn Care).  , Samantha will be a sophomore at the University of North Alabama and is working on a degree in Elementary Education.    My husband, Steve, and I are both from Cherokee and graduated from Cherokee High School.  I love working at my alma mater and am looking forward to another exciting, busy year at Cherokee High School!  Go Indians!
